The ESFM Congress has always been more then just a scientific conference. It is a chance to enjoy a great city, socialise with your fellow delegates, and party in some fantastic locations.


MERIAL Waterside Welcome Reception: Thursday 18, 20.00-late

Come and enjoy our congress welcome reception with a beach bbq! Descend a few steps from the hotel which skillfully blends into the landscape to the edge of the sea where you can dip your toes (or more) as you relax with delegates at the waters edge with views of Cavtat and the lights of Dubrovnik in the distance. Chill out to ther sounds of saxophone music in the welcome cool of the evening and enjoy local food and wine in a peaceful, beach-sde setting before the start of the conference the following morning.

Free time - Saturday 20, from 14.15

In keeping with our traditional balance of lectures and leisure time, Saturday will offer free time for all delegates. The Hotel Croatia boasts a superb range of leisure facilities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools and wellness centre. Delegates may also choose to explore the city of Dubrovnik. This can be done independantly on foot or part of a Congress excursion (price 50euros) by water via traditional sailboats which take guests on a scenic journey along the Riviera and then onto a private walking tour of the old walled city of Dubrvnik, which is a pedestrian-only zone.

Congress 'Aqua' Party: Saturday 20, 19.30 - late
Konavoski Dvori

After a day on the coast in the sunshine, delegates can enjoy the delights of a traditional Croatian country club, 'Konavoski Dvori', which is an old water mill turned restaurant. The short coach journey will allow you to see the greener parts of this area and lots of cool water. The club is surrounded by cascading streams and guests can eat to the sounds of water and the water wheel in motion. Nosuprise then that our theme for the evening is 'aqua', and anything to do with water - colour, sparkle or form - goes! The party will consist of welcome drinks, a lavish traditional dinner, music and dancing till late!

Coaches will collect guests from outside the CROATIA Hotel at 19.30. There will be coaches returning to the CROATIA Hotel between 11.30 and 01.00.

Location: Cavtat, Dubrovnik

Cavtat is a small resort coastal town located between Dubrovnik and its international airport, very convenient for all types of meetings, incentives and events. Dubrovnik, the islands, the inland – they are all easy to reach for any social event. Cavtat lies at the southern tip of the Republic of Croatia. Population is 2.000 people. Climate is mild Mediterranean with over 3,000 hours of sun. According to Jacques Cousteau the crystal clear sea is “the cleanest sea of the Mediterranean” with summer sea temperature up to 25°C. Cavtat is accessible by air (international airport), road and sea.
