Make FAB your charity of the year for 2008

A plea for help! At FAB we have the usual problems facing all charities of raising funds for our work. Sometimes it is easier to motivate people to support you if you are saving animals on the front line – doing rescue work and finding homes for those which have been abandoned or cruelly treated.

Providing information to improve care, be it in the veterinary, rescue, breeding or cattery arena or simply for owners to care better for their cats actually affects millions of cats. However, it is harder to elicit an emotional response except if people understand the value of good quality information and raising standards through knowledge.

When FAB began 50 years ago the cause of cat flu was not known, there was no vaccine available and many other diseases were killers for cats. By investing in cat health, highlighting problems which need to be addressed and making good information on treatments widely available, FAB has made a huge difference.

Likewise FAB catteries in the UK are the highest standard in the world and breeders have good information about their passion because of our work. Every time owners take their cat to the vet something FAB has done will help that cat.

Inevitably of course FAB is preaching to the converted here – our members and web users do understand the value of our work, but it does take a certain intelligence to do this! We are asking all our supporters, and the companies we work with to think of FAB when they decide which charity to support for 2008.

So make FAB your Charity of the Year. We have so much to do during 2008 and lots of cats to help, so your help is vital.

fund a post in feline medicine

You may wish to donate all, or a substantial amount towards the cost of funding a post at a veterinary school exclusively in support of feline medicine. This can be for either a veterinary surgeon or a veterinary nurse and you will be able to choose a name for the post, eg. The FAB Smith Residency/Lectureship in Feline Medicine.

If you would like to donate in this way, please be aware that the posts needed in future years, or what they will cost, cannot be forecast accurately. The cat population and the diseases affecting them do not follow a constant pattern so we need to retain the flexibility to apply our resources where and when they will do most good for cats and their owners. We would therefore ask you to contact the fab Office to discuss your wishes for the funding of a feline post.
