"If you care about the well-being of cats you'll want to support FAB - I do."

Useless - Her Story
Born: Sept 1996

Useless came into my life as a 4wk old orphaned kitten along with 2 of her sisters (called Huge and Juicy). She was hand reared for the first 6wks of her life by a very dedicated nurse at the Lancaster practice I had joined as a recent graduate from Bristol University . I had foolishly told the nurses that I wanted a kitten or two of my own and it seemed to them that take 2 get one free seemed a good offer and I was press ganged into allowing all of them into my new house.

Of the three Useless was the most likely to roam and soon had established a ‘holiday home' 3 doors down from where I lived. She would tour the neighbourhood in search of food and attention. All the local children knew her by name and she would make a fuss of them whenever out and about.

Unfortunately her two sisters came unstuck on the local roads and I moved to a quieter area to try and keep her from joining them. She had a few near misses (evidenced by oil marks and scuffed paws) but proved to be the least ‘useless' of her litter by escaping major injury.

I've led a rather nomadic existence over the last 9 years, moving to Cheshire and from house to house. Useless has taken this all in her stride and established new ‘holiday' homes with on-site catering (she's now on diet food permanently). She's now settled into the house I now have lived in for 3 years and its me who is still nomadic, traveling all over the world filming for the BBC. However, I know when I'm home because there is always that reassuring weight at the end of the bed.
