A gift in your will is the perfect way of making a statement about the values you held during your lifetime. That's why cat lovers choose to remember the Feline Advisory Bureau.

Making a will is easier than most people think. It isn't complicated or expensive.

The best way to make a will is to use a solicitor to ensure your exact wishes will be followed. There are three types of gifts usually left to charity in your will: Residuary, Pecuniary and Specific – below is suggested wording for each type.

Residuary – a share of your estate

“I give free of tax to the Feline Advisory Bureau, Registered Charity Number 254641, [xx%] of the residue of my estate for the general purposes of the Feline Advisory Bureau and declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall be full and sufficient discharge to my executors.”

Pecuniary – a fixed sum of money

“I give free of tax to the Feline Advisory Bureau, Registered Charity Number 254641, the sum of [x,xxx] pounds for the general purposes of the Feline Advisory Bureau and declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall be full and sufficient discharge to my executors.”

Specific – property or a valuable item that can be sold

“I give free of tax to the Feline Advisory Bureau, Registered Charity Number 1117342, my [house/car/painting/jewellery etc] and the proceeds used for the general purposes of the Feline Advisory Bureau and declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall be full and sufficient discharge to my executors.”

Avoid making the gift conditional

To avoid developments in cat care making a specific issue redundant it is most helpful for us if your gift can be used for the general purposes of the Feline Advisory Bureau. But, if there is a specific area you want our work to cover then it is best if it is described in the broadest of terms.

Getting our name right

Five charities use the word ‘Feline' in their name so it is important to use our full name Feline Advisory Bureau, and the Registered Charity Number 254641 to avoid the risk of gift being disputed and being declared invalid.

Your solicitor may want to make a record of our Registered Address.

It is: Feline Advisory Bureau, Taeselbury, High Street, Tisbury, Wiltshire SP3 6LD
