While there may be a financial recession, there is no fall in demand for feline veterinary information. In the first half of 2009, the number of articles downloaded from the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery (JFMS) has almost reached the total for all of 2008 (98,165 Jan - July 2009; 100,145 Jan – Dec 2008).
In 2009 JFMS went monthly. The European Society of Feline Medicine (ESFM) added six clinical issues to its bimonthly JFMS giving practitioners both pure and applied feline science to tackle every-day issues.
'The increase in downloads is across the board - there seems to be equal demand for articles from both classic and clinical issues. Of the downloads of 2009 articles so far, 43 per cent were for articles from the Clinical Practice issues and 57 from the Classic research issues. Eight of the top 10 downloaded 2009 articles were from JFMS Clinical Practice showing a high demand for practical articles for every day practice,’ said Claire Bessant, chief executive of the Feline Advisory Bureau, the charity that provides the administration for ESFM.
Papers are downloadable from www.elsevier.com/locate/jfms and information on membership of ESFM, which includes monthly issues of JFMS can be found on www.fabcats.org/esfm. This download service is free to ESFM members.
