FAB at 50 Working closely with the veterinary profession for 50 years through its funding of veterinary posts, FAB has helped feline veterinary medicine develop to where it is today. In total, FAB has funded 41 feline university posts at four veterinary universities in the form of lecturers, residents and scholars. All the recognised veterinary feline specialists in the UK are ex-FAB funded post holders. FAB’s European Society of Feline Medicine goes from strength to strength each year.
To celebrate 50 years dedicated to promoting the health and welfare of cats, with sponsorship from Petplan, FAB has organised a host of activities for 2008. One of the major initiatives will be the launch of the WellCat for Life scheme at British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress in April. An ideal present for anyone celebrating a 50th anniversary of their own, a rose lover or simply to help cats, the Fab at 50 is a robust floribunda rose that will grow to around 80 cm high. The plants are available either with bare roots or potted. Buying three will mean that you can make substantial savings and make sure you can keep one for yourself! Over 1 million cat owners visit the FAB website each year for help and information on cat care; there are almost 200 excellent catteries built to FAB standards in the UK and Ireland. Manuals giving practical advice on different aspects of care – rescue, feral, catteries and (soon to be published) breeding lay the foundations for best practice for those working with cats.
