Cat Friendly Practice goes international

In a few short years, the concept of a cat friendly practice seems to have gone from the category of ‘nice to have’ to being a standard requirement for successful practices. The rising importance of the cat to the practice almost certainly contributed to the enthusiastic reception of the Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) Cat Friendly Practice Competition. And the cat friendly practice phenomenon is now set to spread across mainland Europe.

‘Since we first ran the campaign last year vets across the rest of Europe have been in touch asking for our cat friendly practice material’ said Chief Executive of FAB Claire Bessant. ‘They are keen to emulate best practice in the UK.’

With no sister organisation elsewhere, FAB formed the Feline Veterinary Federation (FVF) to work with like-minded feline veterinary enthusiasts to promote cat care. Members of the FVF have taken the cat friendly practice values across mainland Europe. All the necessary material, as well as know-how, has been put at the disposal of the FVF. The Creating a Cat Friendly Practice handbook has already been translated into Spanish and French, and the Dutch version is nearly complete.

Hill's Pet Nutrition has adopted the ethos of this programme and is involved in helping to distribute material in a number of European markets.
