July 8 - FAB Easy to Give Award announced

For the second year the Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB), a charity dedicated to the health and welfare of cats, is rewarding drug companies whose products are easier to give to cats, making life better for vets, owners and feline atients alike, with its Easy to Give Award. Winners can use the FAB ‘Easy to Give' logo when advertising their winning products.

Members of the FAB feline expert panel, consisting of FAB lecturers and residents past and present, reviewed nominations received for FAB Easy to Give Award in 2006 and decided that one product stood from the rest: Profender Spot-on Solution produced by Bayer. Profender treats roundworm and tapeworm infestions in cats and comes in three convenient sizes for small, medium or large cats.

Spot-on treatments have revolutionised the treatment and prevention of many parasite problems in cats (external and internal) and are genuinely easy to give because the medication simply needs to be placed on to the skin at the back of the neck. Bayer received Easy to Give Awards in 2005 for other spot-on preparations: Advantage (flea treatment), Advocate, (flea and roundworm treatment) and Droncit  (tapeworm treatment).

‘We all know how difficult it is to give medicines to cats and there is no doubt that these difficulties can put owners off trying at all. FAB is delighted to give Profender our Easy to Give Award. Being able to treat cats for both round and tape worms with one spot-on treatment should ensure that such preventive health care can become routine rather than a dreaded chore,' said FAB Chief Executive Claire Bessant.

The award was presented by Dr Sarah Caney, coordinator of FAB's feline expert panel to Bayer representatives on the afternoon of June 30, at Kensington Roof Gardens, London when over 150 people who work with cats - from universities, charities and commercial companies - got together to network with FAB at its ‘Give in to that Friday feline' event.
